Box Score CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's basketball team lost on the road at North Park University 73-64 on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroons dropped to 5-3 on the season while the Vikings improved to 6-1.
The first half played out evenly, with both teams shooting 32 percent from the field. UChicago was +9 in rebounding and received eight points from senior Klaire Steffens in the post. NPU took a 10-3 lead midway through the first quarter. But the visitors went on a 13-4 run over the next six minutes to draw ahead 16-14 early in the second quarter.
Junior Grace Hynes scored twice in the paint to make the score 27-23, and the two sides went into halftime tied at 28-28.
The Vikings found their offensive efficiency in the third quarter, shooting 59 percent to take a 49-46 lead heading into the fourth. The hosts then pulled away from there, going up 61-52 midway through the quarter and converting their free throws down the stretch to claim the win.
Hynes led the way with 18 points and six rebounds. Steffens compiled 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Sophomore Ellie Gross posted 11 points, four steals and three assists.
UChicago shot 36.2 percent on field goals, 26.3 percent on three-pointers (5-19) and 77.3 percent on free throws (17-22). North Park shot 42.9 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from deep (5-15) and 74.1 percent from the line (20-27).
The Maroons outrebounded the Vikings 41-34, but committed more turnovers (21-15).
