UChicago Women's Lacrosse Begins Conference Slate with 15-6 Win at Carroll

Box Score

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team kicked off the start of its conference schedule with a decisive 15-6 victory at Carroll University on Wednesday night.

The Maroons improved to 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW). The Pioneers fell to 7-2 overall (2-1 CCIW).

Wednesday marked the first road game of the season for the Maroons. It didn't take long for the visitors to make themselves at home. Sophomore Anneke Pulkkinen opened the scoring 88 seconds in off an assist by junior Lally Johnson. Sophomore Katie Large doubled the advantage less than a minute later. Carroll subsequently scored to halve the deficit at 2-1, but the Maroons would not be denied as they scored eight unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes.

Six different players found the back of the net in the first half, led by a trio of scoring strikes from first-year Lulu Hardy. As the teams headed into halftime, UChicago was firmly in control at 10-2.

Sophomore Zoe Torok netted a free position shot early in the second half for her third goal of the game. Carroll scored the next two, but the Maroons remained undeterred with four-straight scores to put the game away.

In the final box score, Hardy led the way with four goals to go with one assist and three ground balls. Torok and Pulkkinen each recorded a hat trick. Johnson collected a team-best four assists to pair with one goal and four caused turnovers.

UChicago won the shots (23-14) and ground balls (32-20) categories by comfortable margins. The most striking Maroon advantage came in the clears column. The visitors converted 24 of 27 clear attempts in the contest (89 percent); meanwhile, the Pioneers struggled in those scenarios, going 12-for-28 (43 percent).
