GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Chicago volleyball team lost to Calvin University on the road by a 3-0 score on Wednesday evening.

The No. 13-ranked Maroons (5-2 record) saw their five-match win streak come to an end. The No. 6-ranked Knights improved to 9-1.

Calvin seized a 7-1 lead to start the match and kept a steady lead the rest of the way to take the set 25-18. UChicago looked to turn things around in the second set, going up 13-7. But a 10-2 run by the hosts put them back ahead 17-15. Late attack errors bit the Maroons as Calvin won the final six points to go up by two sets, 25-20. The Knights leaned on their offense in the third set – the home side hit .364 and ended the match on an 11-2 run to complete the sweep, 25-11.

In the final stats, Calvin posted a .301 hitting percentage while the Maroons struggled at .055. Both teams finished with four blocks. The Knights served up nine aces and UChicago accumulated six aces.

Junior Ellie Alden led the squad with nine kills and three blocks. First-year Maggie McInerney tallied seven kills and six digs. Senior libero Temilade Adekoya produced 16 digs. Junior setter Maddie Ryan contributed 12 assists.
