Box Score CHICAGO – University of Chicago's men's soccer program notched a 2-1 victory over Birmingham-Southern College in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship at Stagg Field on Saturday evening.
Both sides grinded to a scoreless first half, but the Maroons managed two second-half tallies to claim the victory. Kai Walsh scored into an open net on a pass from Ryan Yetishefsky just four minutes after halftime to give UChicago a 1-0 lead. The Maroons doubled their advantage when Alex Lee drew a foul in the box, setting up a penalty kick, which was converted by Lyndon Hu in the 81st minute.
BSC managed a goal in the last five minutes, but UChicago saw out the result. The Maroons had 21 shots while the Panthers managed 11. Will Boyes made five saves for UChicago in net.
The Maroons take on Willamette on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. CT.
