LISLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's basketball team's tenacious defense hounded Benedictine University throughout Sunday's game and helped the visitors secure a 64-36 victory.

The Maroons improved to 2-0 while the Eagles dropped to 0-2. The effort marked the fewest points allowed by UChicago since December 4, 2019 – a 74-23 win over Mount Mary University.

UChicago led wire-to-wire in the contest and started the game strong with a 7-0 run. The squad kept rolling from there and took a 28-14 advantage into halftime. The third quarter was more of the same as the Maroons outscored the Eagles 17-7 and then cruised through the fourth quarter thereafter. Their largest lead of the game was 36 points late in the contest.

While the Maroons struggled to shoot the ball (35.8 percent from the field and 1 of 13 from three-point range), they clamped down Benedictine in impressive fashion. The hosts only shot 16.1 percent from the field, which included a 1-for-23 performance on three-pointers.

UChicago also dominated the rebounding category by a 53-33 margin.

Senior Grace Hynes led the offensive effort with 17 points while snagging seven rebounds. Senior Mallory Brodnik scooped up six rebounds and scored 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Junior Sophia North added 10 points and seven rebounds as well. First-year Lindsey Carter came off the bench to tally eight points and six rebounds.
