CHICAGO – University of Chicago's women's basketball program notched a convincing 72-49 victory over North Park in its home opener on day one of the Midway Classic.

North Park led by one at the end of the first quarter before the Maroons turned up the pressure, outscoring NPU 56-32 the rest of the way, including a 21-6 fourth quarter. Sophia North was extremely effective in the transition game, racking up a game-high 19 points and adding nine rebounds on 8-of-15 shooting.

Grace Hynes knocked down one three and scored several paint buckets to finish with 16 points and five rebounds. Marissa Powe continues to shine early in the season, scoring 12 points and stuffing the stat sheet with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Bella Alfaro and Ashley Gao each chipped in four points off the bench.

The Maroons held North Park to 27.9 percent shooting while shooting 42.4 percent from the field. UChicago had the paint advantage with 38 points compared to NPU's 20.

UChicago, now 3-0, will take on Colorado College at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday Nov. 19 to conclude its weekend as host of the Midway Classic.
