Box Score CHICAGO – University of Chicago's men's basketball program tipped off the Midway Classic on Friday, falling in a tightly-contested battle 69-67 to Colorado College.
The Maroons absorbed their first loss of the season and now stand at 3-1.
UChicago trailed by four after the opening 20 minutes and was down seven with just 1:08 remaining, but a resilient Maroon side battled back. Alec Bryan knocked down a game-tying triple with 13 seconds to go before Colorado College made a layup with 2.7 seconds left to secure the win.
Bryan kept the Maroons within striking distance for much of the contest as he scored a career-high 24 points on 6-of-7 shooting from deep, adding nine boards. Thomas Kurowski chipped in 16 points, going 5-for-6 from the charity stripe and also collected six rebounds and three assists. Arrish Bhandal rounded out the UChicago scorers in double-digits, posting 11 points on an efficient 5-for-6 from the field.
The Maroons were more efficient from in all three scoring categories, but had 20 turnovers compared to Colorado's 10. For the first time this season, UChicago lost the paint battle as it was outscored 36-22.
UChicago continues the Midway Classic tomorrow, taking on Colby at noon inside the Ratner Athletics Center.
