Box Score WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's basketball team lost on the road at No. 24-ranked Wheaton College 73-55 on Saturday night.
The Maroons evened their record at 3-3 while the Thunder improved to 5-1.
Joe Berry started things off with a layup and a three-pointer to tie the score at 5-5. But after that, Wheaton took a lead it would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Another jumper by Berry pulled the game to within 23-19 later in the first half. Josh Preston threw down a dunk in the final 10 seconds, and the Thunder made a jumper as time expired to go into halftime with a 39-29 advantage.
The hosts stayed hot offensively in the second half and took a 25-point lead midway through the period. UChicago shot 33 percent in the second half en route to 36.4 percent on field goals for the game. Wheaton ended up making 48.3 percent of its field goals, including 37.5 percent from three-point range.
The Maroons won the rebounding battle 38-32 thanks to a 13-7 margin on the offensive boards. The visitors also blocked seven shots. However, the Thunder committed only five turnovers compared to 12 by UChicago.
Berry contributed in all facets with 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Ezra Moos tallied 11 points and three rebounds. Jackson Piotrowski finished with nine points, three rebounds, two blocks and two assists off the bench.
