Box Score CHICAGO – University of Chicago's second-ranked men's soccer program finished off a historic undefeated regular season with a 1-0 victory over WashU, securing the outright University Athletic Association (UAA) title.
The Maroons honored their decorated senior class prior to the match as Kameron Bloye, Richard Gillespie, Michael Johnson, Naz Kabbani, Griffin Wada and Jake Yonally for their commitment and contributions to the program.
In very windy conditions, UChicago outshot WashU 6-0 in the first half, including three on target, but the sides were scoreless after 45 minutes. The Maroons continued to create chances in the second half and finally found the net in the 77th minute.
Ryan Shea capitalized on a misplay from the WashU goalkeeper, lobbing a shot from distance into the mesh to secure the result for UChicago. The Maroons had 12 shots, five on target and goalkeeper Will Boyes earned the clean sheet with one save.
UChicago expects to host the opening rounds and more of the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship, but will learn details and its opponent on Monday, Nov. 7 at 12:30 PM (CT). The selection show will air live on NCAA.com.
