CHICAGO – University of Chicago's 21st-ranked women's basketball program used a 28-point fourth quarter to defeat 13th-ranked UW-Whitewater 63-58 on Wednesday evening inside of the Ratner Athletics Center.

Trailing by 10 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Maroons used lockdown defense and timely shooting to outscore the Warhawks 28-13 in the final 10 minutes, staying undefeated and moving to 9-0 in the process. Sophia North scored 11 of her 26 points in the final frame, which included the go-ahead layup with 2:37 remaining.

UChicago then held off UW-Whitewater down the stretch with six made free throws in the final minute. Bella Alfaro made a solid contribution off the bench, finishing with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. Starters Marissa Powe and Grace Hynes both chipped in eight. Mallory Brodnik led the defensive effort with six rebounds and three blocked shots. 

As a team, the Maroons forced 22 UWW turnovers and scored 21 points from Warhawk miscues. UChicago, despite not having the size advantage, also had 30 points in the paint compared to the Warhawks' 22.

The victory is the highest-ranked win for the women's program since defeating No. 11 Trine on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019.
