GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team bounced back and returned to the win column with a 9-0 shutout of DePauw University on Sunday.
The Maroons evened their record at 1-1 on the early season while the Tigers dropped to 0-3.
In doubles action, the Maroons took a quick 3-0 lead against the Tigers, winning all three matches in dominating fashion. First-years Shianna Guo and Sylwia Mikos continued their winning streak, defeating their opponents 8-0 at the top spot. Junior Claudia Ng and senior Eugenia Lee won by an identical 8-0 margin at No. 2. Senior Annika Pandey and first-year Miranda Yuan grabbed their No. 3 match 8-2.
In singles, UChicago was victorious at all six spots. Mikos and Ng snatched every game of their matches, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Guo, Yuan, Lee and first-year Nicole Geller earned singles victories as well. The Maroons did not surrender more than four games in any match.
"We did an excellent job of maintaining focus all the way to the finish today, which was exactly what our goal was coming into the match," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "Overall, it was a good opening weekend for the team, and we're starting to come together and realize just how special this group is."
