Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team absorbed its first loss of the season at the hands of Tufts University by a 17-3 score on Saturday.
The No. 12-ranked Maroons dropped to 4-1 while the No. 9-ranked Jumbos improved to 3-1.
UChicago stayed close through the opening 13 minutes. Goals by sophomore Lulu Hardy and junior Zoe Torok made the score 3-2 with two minutes left in the first quarter.
However, Tufts got on a roll from there and scored 11 unanswered goals to go up 14-2. Junior Becky Van Kirk tallied a power-play goal with just under four minutes remaining in the third quarter to break the streak.
In the final stats, the Jumbos outshot the Maroons 40-11 and held a 20-9 groundballs advantage. UChicago also committed 10 more turnovers (23-13).
Both teams were successful on clears – Tufts converted 16 of 17 while UChicago went 12-for-16.
First-year goalie Rachel Keefe (4-1 record) took the loss with 12 saves and 17 goals across 60 minutes of play.
