SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In its first match as the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, University of Chicago women's tennis lived up to that billing with a 9-0 sweep of Trinity University (Texas) on Monday evening.
The Maroons (9-1 record) shut out its fifth opponent of the season. The No. 24-ranked Tigers fell to 8-6.
UChicago prevailed in all three doubles matches by scores of 8-3, 8-5 and 8-6. Singles saw the Maroons win all six matches, including five in straight sets. First-year Sylwia Mikos was particularly dominant at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Multi-winners on the day included Mikos, first-year Shianna Guo, junior Claudia Ng, first-year Nicole Geller and senior Annika Pandey.
