Box Score AURORA, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team produced balanced scoring all game long in an 18-8 victory at Aurora University on Wednesday night.
The No. 22-ranked Maroons improved to 8-1 while the Spartans dropped to 4-5.
UChicago scored the opening five goals of the game and never looked back. The visitors went on to tally four in the second quarter, five in the third and four in the fourth.
First-year Evelina Swigart struck the opening blow 70 seconds into the game off an assist by sophomore Lizzie Huesman. Three more were added on the scoreboard in the next four-and-a-half minutes to give the Maroons a lead they would not relinquish.
In the final minute of the half, sophomore Lulu Hardy scored to make the score 9-3 heading into the break.
UChicago went on a 7-2 run over an 18-minute stretch in the second half to take a double-digit lead. The offense produced at least 18 goals for the fifth time this season.
Hardy scored five goals on six shots while grabbing four ground balls. Swigart contributed three goals and one assist with four draw controls. Junior Zoe Torok netted three goals and scooped up five ground balls. Senior Lally Johnson racked up two goals, two assists and two ground balls. Sophomore Camille Kuwana finished with one goal, two assists and five draw controls. Junior Charlotte Rapp (2 CT) and Huesman (3 GB) combined for nine draw controls.
Draw controls proved to be UChicago's most dominant category, seizing 23 compared to only six by Aurora. The Maroons also outshot the Spartans 32-15. Ground balls were nearly even at 26-25 for UChicago. The visitors went 15-for-17 on clears while the hosts were 14-for-20.
First-year goalie Rachel Keefe (8-1 record) tallied four saves and five goals allowed in 45 minutes of action. Junior Emily Feigen played the final 15 minutes with three goals allowed.
