MADISON, Wis. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team proved unstoppable on Friday, notching a pair of 9-0 shutouts against Hope College and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Midwest Invite.

The No. 1-ranked Maroons (12-1 record) won their 12th-straight match. The Flying Dutch fell to 8-6 and the No. 33-ranked Warhawks dropped to 16-3.

UChicago came into the Midwest Invite as the top seed in the eight-team field. The day's first opponent was Hope, who the Maroons had previously dispatched 9-0 back on February 26. Friday morning's rematch produced the same results. UChicago rolled in doubles play with wins of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-5. In singles, four of the victories saw the Maroons surrender three games or fewer. First-year Nicole Geller blanked her opponent at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0) while junior Claudia Ng was almost equally dominant at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1).

The afternoon semifinals against UW-Whitewater followed a similar script. A doubles sweep occurred by scores of 8-2, 8-2 and 8-4. Five of the six singles bouts featured three or fewer games allowed to the Warhawks. First-year Sylwia Mikos (No. 1), first-year Shianna Guo (No. 2) and senior Lauren Park (No. 6) all earned wins by matching 6-1, 6-0 scores.

Mikos, Guo, Ng and Geller all went 4-0 on the day between singles and doubles play.

"It was a long day physically and mentally for the team, but they were dogged in their determination and focus throughout the competition, as evidenced by the scores across the board," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "We picked up some good wins, continued to work on areas of improvement, and were able to get everyone more match experience, which will help us later in the season."
