ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In their final tune-up before the conference tournament, the University of Chicago men's and women's tennis teams both picked up victories on the road against Washington University – St. Louis on Sunday.

"Today was a really good ending to our regular season against our rivals from St. Louis," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "The men hadn't beaten WashU on the road in 25 years and possibly longer, while the women have had their struggles at the Danforth campus as well. We kept our composure on both sides and played some great tennis under pressure. The No. 1 doubles match on the men's side was a huge swing for us while Sylwia Mikos getting us the fourth point set up Shianna Guo for the clinching win a few moments later."

Women – UChicago 5, WashU 0

The No. 1-ranked Maroons improved to 15-1 on the season while the No. 19-ranked Bears fell to 14-7.

The two teams met two weeks earlier in the final of the Midwest Invite, which UChicago won by a 9-0 margin.

On Sunday, the Maroons nearly repeated that result, starting off with a 3-0 sweep in doubles. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Mikos and Guo as well as the No. 3 tandem of Lauren Park and Perene Wang won by matching 8-4 scores. Claudia Ng and Eugenia Lee combined to down WashU 8-6 at the No. 2 position.

Due to rain, the match-up was played to decision. Mikos at No. 1 and Guo at No. 2 provided the deciding singles victories by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2, respectively. The remaining matches went unfinished.

Men – UChicago 5, WashU 2

The No. 2-ranked Maroons (14-1 record) won their sixth-straight bout against a nationally-ranked opponent. The No. 6-ranked Bears dropped to 12-8.

UChicago and WashU previously played each other at the ITA Indoor Nationals in late February, which the Maroons won by an 8-1 score.

Sunday's match was played to decision due to rain in the area. UChicago grabbed the early 2-1 edge after doubles play. The duo of Christian Alshon and Derek Hsieh delivered in the clutch at No. 1 with an 8-7 (7-5) triumph. The No. 3 pairing of Sachin Das and Alex Guzhva prevailed at No. 3 with an 8-6 score.

In singles action, the Maroons came out on top in three of the four completed matches. Straight-set wins were provided by Alshon (No. 1), Hsieh (No. 2) and Shramay Dhawan (No. 6).
