UChicago Men's Soccer Begins Season With 1-0 Win at Kalamazoo

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. The No. 4-ranked University of Chicago men's soccer team made its season debut on the road Thursday night and came away with a 1-0 victory over Kalamazoo College.

Opening day of the 2022 fall season featured a familiar result for the Maroons, who previously defeated Kalamazoo in the 2021 season opener by the same 1-0 margin. Six of UChicago's 16 wins last year were of the 1-0 variety.

Offense proved hard to come by in the first half with a combined four shots between the two teams. But the visitors made their best chance count as junior Robbie Pino found the back of the net in the 41st minute off an assist by first-year Alex Lee.

UChicago took that 1-0 lead into halftime and proceeded to keep the Hornets off the scoreboard the rest of the way. The home side's lone shot on goal came at the 82-minute mark, which was saved by junior goalie Will Boyes.

The Maroon defense secured its 14th shutout in the past 23 games played. The final box score featured six shots for each team and a 2-0 corner kick advantage for UChicago. Boyes earned the clean sheet with 90 minutes of work between the pipes.

Julianne Sitch also notched her first career collegiate win in her debut varsity contest as leader of the Maroon men's squad.
