Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – University of Chicago's top-ranked men's soccer program earned a 2-1 victory on the road at No. 10 Calvin on Wednesday evening, extending its win streak to eight-straight matches.
The Maroons and Knights battled in a physical, back-and-forth affair that can be expected in a matchup of two top-10 programs. UChicago gained momentum, however, in the 38th minute as Calvin's Aguma Mahumuza was sent off after two yellow cards in a matter of two minutes and 36 seconds.
The Maroons capitalized a short time later as Richard Gillespie found the mesh from a Lyndon Hu free kick in the 43rd minute to put UChicago ahead 1-0. Despite being a man down, Calvin found an equalizer on a penalty kick in the 49th minute, leveling the score at 1-all.
UChicago's offense found its breakthrough in the 78th minute following a throw in as Ryan Yetishefsky slotted in a pass from Michael Johnson for the game-winner, preserving the Maroons' perfect start to the 2022 campaign.
UChicago will prepare to host a strong North Park side on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in its final competition before UAA play begins.
