Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – University of Chicago's 10th-ranked women's basketball program cruised to an 89-63 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Friday evening for its third-straight win in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.
Pittsburgh-native Sophia North poured in 34 points in just 23 minutes, making 6-of-9 three-point attempts, to lead the Maroons. UChicago controlled the contest from the outset, outscoring CMU 25-11 in the opening quarter and holding a 20-point halftime lead.
North made four triples in the first quarter in front of family and friends and continued to catch fire from there. She scored four or more field goals in each of the first three quarters and did not appear in the final frame. Grace Hynes supported North with 11 points and added a team-high 11 rebounds, five offensive.
Isabelle Herrera knocked down a trio of three-pointers in 23 minutes off the bench. Lindsey Carter and Bella Alfaro also had eight points each.
As a team, the Maroons assisted on 23-of-34 made field goals and shot 44.8 percent from three, going 13-for-29. UChicago also controlled the boards with 46 rebounds to CMU's 33.
UChicago continues its road trip in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, taking on Case Western Reserve at 11 AM CT.
