Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – University of Chicago's men's basketball team was defeated by Carnegie Mellon 66-60 in a back-and-forth road contest on Friday evening.
The Maroons led by six at the half, but CMU outscored UChicago by 12 points in the final 20 minutes to claim a late victory in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. Three Maroon starters were in double-digits led by Arrish Bhandal's 14. The junior forward also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Bryce Hopkins added 13 and posted a double-double with 11 rebounds. Thomas Kurowski scored 12 points, shooting 50 percent from the field.
Kurowski tied the game at 60 with 1:25 to go, but the Tartans scored the final six points and came up with two crucial stops in the final 30 seconds. UChicago had a slight edge in rebounding 36-34, but committed 20 turnovers to Carnegie Mellon's 13.
UChicago will take on Case Western Reserve on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. CT.
