Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team wrapped up its spring break trip with a 12-9 victory at Catholic University on Saturday.
The 16-ranked Maroons improved to 5-0. The No. 21-ranked Cardinals fell to 2-5.
An evenly-played first quarter saw Catholic score in the final five seconds of the period to go up 4-3. After exchanging goals in the second quarter, the home side maintained its narrow margin at 6-5 going into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Maroons took over and scored seven unanswered goals over an 18-minute span. That run helped turn a 7-5 deficit into a 12-7 lead that they would not relinquish. Camille Kuwana scored all four of her goals during that time to jump start UChicago.
The final box score saw both teams register 27 shots. The Cardinals held a 15-10 advantage in draw controls, but also committed more turnovers (21-17). The physical game featured 50 fouls.
Avery Song and Kuwana tied for the team lead with four goals each. Jill Hooey posted five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Sophie Lynn grabbed four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Kali Konstantinakos recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Goalie Rachel Keefe (5-0 record) collected 11 saves in the winning effort.
