GRANVILLE, Ohio – In a nationally-ranked matchup, the University of Chicago women's lacrosse team went on the road and secured a 20-9 win at Denison University on Saturday.

The No. 17-ranked Maroons improved to 2-0 while the No. 24-ranked Big Red dropped to 0-4. The game was a rematch of the 2021 NCAA Championship quarterfinal, which Denison won 10-7.

After the home team went up 3-2 in the first quarter, UChicago proceeded to score six in-a-row to make it 8-3. Denison hung tough, however, posting four goals in less than four minutes to draw back to within 8-7. But the Maroons put up another streak with five-straight goals to close out the half with a 13-7 advantage. Katie Large accounted for three goals in that run.

The visitors had their way in the third quarter, led by Lulu Hardy's four goals. With a 19-8 lead in hand, UChicago cruised the rest of the way in an uneventful fourth quarter.

The Maroons held a sizable lead in shots taken at 38-25. Ground balls also went in the visitors' favor at 21-18, as well as draw controls at 19-13. The home side committed more turnovers on the afternoon (23-16).

Hardy put up a game-high six goals with one assist and two ground balls. Large tallied four goals and two assists. Zoe Torok added a hat trick of goals as well. On the draw, Jill Hooey tallied eight controls and Lizzie Huesman put up seven. Evelina Swigart put up a well-rounded stat line with four draw controls, three caused turnovers, three ground balls, one goal and one assist. Sophie Lynn contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers defensively.

Goalie Rachel Keefe made eight saves to pick up the win. She also limited Denison to 1-for-6 on free-position attempts.
