Box Score CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team erupted offensively and poured in a school-record 27 goals in Saturday's rout of Albion College.
The No. 16-ranked Maroons got back into the win column at 6-2, while the Britons fell to 3-6.
UChicago set a pair of school records in the contest with 27 goals and 40 points. The prior record of 26 goals was set in 2022 against Carroll University. The previous high of 38 points was established against two different opponents in 2019 (Linfield University) and 2022 (Illinois Wesleyan University).
Albion got on the board first with a free-position goal in the first 80 seconds of the game. But from that point on, it was all Maroons the rest of the way. The home side scored nine-straight goals in the first quarter, including two each by Camille Kuwana and Zoe Torok.
In the second quarter, UChicago took advantage of a pair of yellow cards and scored on the player advantage in both instances. Seven different players found the back of the net in the quarter and UChicago went into halftime holding a comfortable 16-4 lead.
Despite the running clock going for the whole second half, the Maroons continued to execute at a high level with seven goals in the third quarter and four more in the fourth quarter. Lulu Hardy, Olivia Hung and Jill Hooey tallied two goals each in the second half.
UChicago was dominant in every category on the cold and wet Saturday afternoon on the Stagg Field turf. The home team held large advantages in shots (43-16), draw controls (24-12), turnovers (7-13) and ground balls (18-8). The Britons struggled mightily against UChicago's full ride, converting only 3-of-11 clears.
Hardy finished with four goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Hooey put up three goals, two assists and six draw controls. Skylar Lienhardt contributed two goals, three assists and two ground balls. Three goals apiece were provided by Katie Large, Torok and Hung. Avery Song, Peyton Sanborn and Kuwana added two goals each. Jane Chen dished out three assists.
Goalie Rachel Keefe (6-2 record) made one save with four goals allowed in the first half. Emily Feigen took over in the second half and totaled three goals and three saves. Hailey Klinger grabbed four ground balls and one caused turnover defensively.
