Box Score CHICAGO – University of Chicago's 16th-ranked women's lacrosse program cruised to a 26-7 victory over Carthage College in its first Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup of the season.
The Maroons and the Firebirds traded goals early on as the score was 5-4 in UChicago's favor after the first quarter. A rejuvenated Maroon squad then went on a 21-3 run over the final three quarters to seal their first conference victory of 2023 in a rematch of last season's CCIW title game.
Katie Large and Lulu Hardy led the offensive effort with four goals each. Jane Chen was instrumental in setting up Maroon tallies, assisting on six goals. Peyton Sanborn delivered a solid offensive effort as well with three goals on four shots. Zoe Torok, Camille Kuwana, Evelina Swigart, Jill Hooey and Skylar Lienhardt each added two goals a piece.
Charlotte Semlies, Alexis Veldhuis, Hailey Klinger, Lizzie Huesman and Olivia Hung rounded out the UChicago scorers with each scoring once. Klinger added three ground balls and is now just one away from 100 for her career.
Rachel Keefe (9-2) and Emily Feigen split the game in net as Keefe played the first half before giving way to Feigen for the final 30 minutes.
