Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team split its remaining two matches at day two of the Elmhurst College Invitational on Saturday.
The No. 15-ranked Maroons ran their record to 3-1 on the season. Freshman Maren Loe was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Chicago swept through its first match versus Lake Forest College by a 3-0 margin (25-14, 25-23, 25-22). Loe led the kills category with nine while Morgan Clark and Morgan Barry scored six kills each. Caroline Brander served up four aces to go with her four blocks and five kills. Eirene Kim and Loe added nine digs each. Setter Nikki DelZenero ended up with 26 assists.
The final match of the weekend featured a pair of nationally-ranked foes, as the Maroons took on No. 11-ranked Elmhurst College. The hosts came out on top in a back and forth battle 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-12). Loe spiked 16 kills to only one error for an efficient offensive match. Barry tallied 12 kills and Katie Trela scored on her hits with nine kills on only 17 attempts. Trela also added four blocks. DelZenero handed out 44 assists. Kim led in the digs category with 20.
The Maroons make their home debut on Tuesday with a 7 PM match against College of St. Scholastica.
