ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the third-place match at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, the University of Chicago volleyball team lost to Case Western Reserve University 3-1 on Sunday.

The No. 22-ranked Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 20-12. The Spartans improved to 24-7.

UChicago will be seeking their sixth-straight bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, with the field to be announced on Monday at 10:00 AM (CT). Live video of the selection show can be found at: http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2015/11/09.

Case 3, UChicago 1 (25-9, 25-16, 22-25, 25-21)

The first set went poorly for the Maroons, who posted more errors (12) than kills (8). The Spartans scored 16 of the opening 20 points to handily take the set, 25-9. They kept the momentum rolling by jumping out to an almost identical 15-4 lead in the second set before going on to win 25-16.

Facing a two-set deficit, UChicago found its rhythm in the third. After a tie at 8-8, the Maroons slowly started to pull away to go up 22-14. The Spartans kept things interesting by running off six-straight points to get within two. But a kill from senior outside hitter Jasmine Mobley and a ball-handling error by Case got the Maroons on the board, 25-22.

Case struck right back with yet another big run to start the fourth, charging out to a 12-3 lead. Two kills by Mobley and a service ace by junior libero Mary Claire Tuohy got UChicago close at 17-14. However, the Spartans held sway and ended the match, 25-21.

UChicago hit .140 in the match (52 kills, 27 errors, 179 attempts) to go with three aces, three blocks and 94 digs. Senior outside hitter Maren Loe recorded an equal number of kills and digs with 18 apiece. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Scrafford and Mobley followed with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Junior setter Erin Risk tallied 39 kills, 20 digs and five kills. Tuohy contributed a match-high 30 digs.

The Spartans stayed hot on offense, hitting .292 with only seven attack errors in the match. They added eight aces, five blocks and 90 digs.
