WINONA, Minn. – The University of Chicago volleyball team capped a strong showing at the Sugar Loaf Classic with a two-match sweep Saturday, defeating Wisconsin-Stout and Ripon on the tournament's final day to improve to 3-1 on the year.

The Maroons opened the day with a five-set victory over the UW-Stout Blue Devils (0-3), topping the Blue Devils by scores of 25-27, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17, and 15-10, then followed with a three-set sweep over the Red Hawks (1-2), 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.

In total, UChicago played three-straight five-set matches over the weekend --  winning two – before handling Ripon in a three-set contest that lasted just over an hour.

UCHICAGO 3, UW-STOUT 2 (25-27, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17, 15-10)
Audrey Scrafford poured in a match-high 24 kills and freshman setter Emma Griffith delivered 51 assists in a hard-fought opening match against the Blue Devils.

The Maroons fell in a tightly-contest Set 1, 25-27, then responded with a convincing second-set victory where they recorded a .250 attack percentage and held UW-Stout to just .091 hitting. Scrafford helped UChicago jump out to an early 6-2 lead with three kills en route to the eight-point win.

After UW-Stout turned the tables in Set 3, the Maroons bounced back to take the final two sets, leaning on Scrafford (three kills in Set 5), Sarah Muisenga (two kills in Set 5) and Anabella Pinton (four kills in Set 5) to close out the victory.

Pinton and Muisenga finished with double-doubles in the win, as Pinton totaled 12 kills and 17 digs and Muisenga added 10 kills and 14 digs for the Maroons. Madison Pearson chipped in 10 kills and two block assists and Anne Marie Stifter led the defense with 27 digs.

The Maroons made quick work of the Red Hawks in the day's second match, as UChicago didn't allow Ripon to reach the 20-point mark in all three sets.

Anabella Pinton led the attack with 11 kills and Sarah Muisenga added nine for the offense, while Anne Marie Stifter (19 digs) and Frances McDonald (17 digs) each tallied double-digit numbers for the defense.

Freshman setter Allison Muisenga directed the offense with a match-high 35 assists as the Maroons finished with a .176 attack percentage for the match, compared to .044 for the Red Hawks.

Madison Pearson added a solid game with eight kills and three block assists for UChicago.
