Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The University of Chicago men's soccer team played through regulation and two overtimes before ending up with a 1-1 tie at St. Olaf College on Saturday.
The No. 19-ranked Maroons moved to 3-0-1 and the Oles ran their record to 2-1-1.
It was a slow start in the first half, as the two teams only managed five total shots combined. Both St. Olaf shots on goal were saved by UChicago senior goalkeeper Calvin Walters.
The Maroons pressed the issue in the second half with nine shots, and the increased pressure paid dividends in the 64th minute. Junior Richard Gillespie scored with his left foot in front, with an assist credited to first-year Jack Leuker.
However, St. Olaf evened the score in the 77th minute. A foul led to a penalty kick that the hosts converted.
The game continued into two overtime periods, with UChicago owning an 11-2 shot advantage. But no more goals were forthcoming, and the game ended in a stalemate.
The final stats saw the Maroons hold the advantage in shots (22-10) and corner kicks (9-6). Sophomore Robbie Pino led the team in shots with six. Walters made four saves in his 110 minutes of action in goal.
