Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Chicago women's soccer team kept its undefeated start to the season rolling with a 4-0 victory at Hope College on Tuesday.
The No. 9-ranked Maroons improved to 7-0 on the season, while the Flying Dutch fell to 4-2.
The first half played out quietly as only four shots were taken. UChicago accounted for all four, which included a goal in the 12th minute from senior Adriana Shutler.
Hope was able to utilize more aggression in the second half and fired off eight shots. Coming into the day, UChicago's defense had only allowed 13 total shots over six games. But the Maroons maintained their immaculate mark and notched a seventh-straight shutout.
The visitors posted a trio of goals after halftime to put the game out of reach. Shutler sent a long lead pass to fellow senior Peyton Jefferson, who scored on the right wing from 20 yards out in the 55th minute. The next two tallies came courtesy of failed clearances by Hope, which UChicago immediately turned into scores. First-year Stella El-Fishawy was assisted on her scoring strike by senior Nicole Willing in the 75th minute. Then in the 87th minute, senior Sara Salvino deflected a clear attempt over the goalie and into the net.
The Maroons led the shots category 11-8, but the Flying Dutch had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Miranda Malone (7-0 record) made a season-high four saves in 81 minutes of action. First-year Sophie Pilarski took over for the final nine minutes between the pipes.
