Box Score 2 STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Chicago volleyball team rallied past Millikin University 3-2 before dropping a 3-1 decision to host University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday evening at the Pointers Invitational.
The No. 16-ranked Maroons moved to 8-4 on the season. The No. 14-ranked Big Blue fell to 11-2. The Pointers improved to 13-2.
UChicago 3, Millikin 2
The opening match saw both sides exchanging sets back and forth. UChicago captured the first and third sets 25-22 and 25-23. Millikin answered by snagging the second and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-22.
In the deciding fifth set, the Maroons were on the ropes trailing 12-7. But UChicago came roaring back and snatched the victory at 17-15.
Both defenses proved tough to crack. The teams hit a combined .066 while accumulating 179 digs and 18 blocks.
First-year Maggie McInerney posted 10 kills and a season-high 18 digs. Junior Ellie Alden produced 10 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Ella Mao contributed nine kills and eight digs while serving up a season-best six aces. First-year Cami Cox totaled nine kills, four blocks and four digs.
Sophomore setter Maya Patel collected 33 assists and a season-high 23 digs. Senior libero Temilade Adekoya tallied 22 digs, five assists and two aces.
UW-Stevens Point 3, UChicago 1
The nightcap got off to a rough start, as the Pointers raced past the Maroons 25-14 in the first set. UChicago answered back to tie the match up, 25-19. However, the hosts held sway the rest of the way, winning the third 27-25 and the fourth 25-21.
UChicago hit .166 in the match but were hampered by 13 service errors. Both squads produced nine blocks each.
McInerney set a new career high by spiking 19 kills. She also added 10 digs. Alden put up seven kills offensively and six blocks defensively. Patel's stat line featured 38 assists, 10 digs and three blocks. Adekoya accrued 23 digs.
