CHICAGO – For the second meet in-a-row, the University of Chicago swimming & diving teams took down an NCAA Division I opponent as the Maroons defeated University of Illinois-Chicago on the road Friday night.
UChicago's No. 3-ranked men won the dual 160-120, while the No. 4-ranked women notched a 166-130 victory.
On the night, the Maroon women won 11 total events. Samantha Bertschi was a triple winner to lead the way, as she triumphed in her usual pairing of the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyles (5:05.77 and 10:28.66). Bertschi also earned first place in the 200-yard IM, swimming a time of 2:11.15.
Karen Zhao picked up a pair of victories in the freestyle. She finished the 100-yard free in 52.03 and the 200-yard free in 1:51.93. On the diving side, Veronica Fong continued her dominance by sweeping the one-meter board (267.98) and three-meter board (296.93).
On the men's side, UChicago came away with first place in eight events. Garrett Clasen claimed the top placement in the 100-yard freestyle (46.57) as well as the 200-yard IM (1:53.09). Arthur Kiselnikov won the 100-yard butterfly (50.22) and also swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.65) and the lead leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay.
