Women's soccer falls 2-1 to Carnegie Mellon

Box Score

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Natalia Jovanovic's late goal pulled the University of Chicago women's soccer team close, but the Maroons couldn't get the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday.

The Maroons dropped to 0-2-0 in the UAA and 7-4-0 overall. The Tartans improved to 7-1-2, 1-1-0 in conference play.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with both sides demonstrating solid defense. They combined for 13 shots, but none that tested either goalie.

In the 57th minute, Carnegie Mellon's Savina Reid took a through-ball from Louisa Pendergast and chipped it past Chicago goalie Jacinda Reid to put the Tartans on the board first.  Reid would score her fourth goal of the season only 1:44 later as she headed in a cross from Brittany Couture.

The Tartans kept the comfortable two-goal advantage until the 87th minute when Chicago's Natalia Jovanovic tallied her fourth goal of the year on a pass from Brigette Kragie. The Maroons pressured over the final three minutes of the game, but to no avail.

Chicago led in shots 12-11 while Carnegie Mellon led in corner kicks 7-5. Reid made three saves in taking the loss.

The Maroons will play their final two home games of the regular season next week. On Friday, they take on Brandeis University at 3 PM and then host NYU at 10:30 AM on Sunday for Senior Day.
