Box Score

WHITEWATER, Wis. – After 101 minutes of scoreless play, Capital University tallied the game-winning goal to beat the University of Chicago women's soccer team 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday.

The Maroons end their season with an overall record of 11-5-3. The Crusaders (17-4-1) advanced to Sunday's second-round matchup with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (17-0-4).

UChicago was dominant in the first half, outshooting Capital 11-1 and holding a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. However, the score stood tied at 0-0 by the time halftime rolled around. The Crusaders started to even out play in the second half and made several shots on goal. After 90 minutes, the score remained knotted at 0-0 and the game headed to overtime.

In the first overtime, the Maroons had several close calls that almost ended the game. Sophomore forward Mary Bittner hit a looping shot that almost went over Capital goalkeeper Maggie Donnellan's head, but Donnellan's leaping punch-out save kept the game going. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Mullen then had her shot in front blocked at 93:11 after a corner kick.

The two sides played on into a second overtime period, but the Crusaders ended the proceedings with a tap-in goal off a corner kick at the 101:13 mark.

UChicago finished the game with a 22-7 edge in shots and a 9-2 lead in corner kicks. Maroons junior goalie Jacinda Reid (5-3-3) collected four saves with one goal allowed.
