Clarence Herschberger became the first consensus All-American in Chicago football history when in 1898 he was selected to Walter Camp's All-America team. A standout running back and kicker, Herschberger was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1970. During Herschberger's career, Chicago teams compiled a record of 35-8.
