William A. Lester, Jr. was one of the top basketball players of UChicago's post-Big Ten era from 1953-57. He played in all 67 games and became the school's all-time leading scorer in the process, holding that distinction for 17 years. The first player in school history to score 1,000 points, Lester compiled a total of 1,293 points, which currently ranks sixth in the program's record books. His 19.3 points per game is tied for second in career scoring average. Lester held the Chicago single-game scoring record (42 points vs. Aurora in 1956-57) for 46 years. He is the only player in Chicago history to average more than 25 points per game in a season with a 25.5 average in 1956-57. Lester was named the Stagg Medal winner in 1957.
