Wai Gen Yee starred for the Maroon men's fencing squad in the early-to-mid 1990s as a foil specialist. He won more than 300 bouts during his collegiate career. Yee was a three-time NCAA national qualifier and earned All-American status twice, by finishing sixth in 1993 and 12th in 1994. Additionally, he placed 19th in 1995. He accrued 30 career victories in NCAA competition. Within the UAA, Yee was the 1993 conference champion in the foil - he was one of two UChicago titlists in UAA history. He was named the Stagg Medal winner in 1995.
