Cliff Cox was a three-time wrestling national qualifier across two NCAA Divisions. As a sophomore, he was selected to the NCAA Division I Championships field in 1962 at 130 pounds. He went on to earn a spot in the NCAA Division II Championships bracket the following two seasons at 123 pounds. A four-year captain, Cox went on to serve as head coach of the Maroon wrestling team for two seasons after his graduation. He was also a three-year letter winner on the track & field team. Cox received the Stagg Medal in 1964.
